Back At It After An Impromptu Weekend Off – Albion v DMP Preview

The boys joined the majority of National League 1 club in being given an unexpected and disappointing weekend off recently when our game with the Leicester Lions was called off.

It was not without reason; the conditions were horrible, the pitch was likened to concrete, and player welfare must always come before competition.

The early announcement on Friday meant that no travels were made on Saturday – one of the positives to take from an otherwise disenchanting weekend.

Some rugby did take place of course; our impressive Colts fought valiantly as they tasted defeat at the hands of a fantastic Wellington side; they had absolutely nothing to be ashamed of in Somerset.

Back to the first team though, and it is the first time this season that we embark on a second consecutive home game following last Saturday’s no-go. Our 39-23 win over Bishop’s Stortford remains our last outing in what was a splendid return to action for the first time in 2024.

They will do battle against a Darlington Mowden Park side that, like ourselves, have won two of their last three. Leicester were one of their two victims along with Sale, before Cinderford recorded a narrow victory after a mighty close game at Dockham Road.

The North East outfit are eighth in National League 1 at the moment; they sit 14 points behind Albion having played the same number of games after their clash with Blackheath was also called off late last week.

We recorded victory over DMP earlier in the season. It was a Nat 1 thriller at the Darlington Arena, but tries from Ramaz Rukhadze, Dan Collier, Jack Oulton and Craig Duncan helped us take an excellent win against a tremendous side.

Team News:

Harry Wilkinson comes in for his first start since November after serving his suspension, with Hallam Chapman also returning having been unavailable two weeks ago against Stortford. Dan Collier is unavailable this weekend.

Tom Putt is also back in the match day squad having picked up a hand injury before the winter break; he will be in the replacement pool on Saturday.
