After 10 Fixtures against the likes of Richmond, London Welsh, Rosslyn Park and Bath, Albion have a “Local Derby” at the Rectory.

Call-Ups by Devon, injuries, and non-availability had weakened both Teams. Plymouth Albion took the lead in the first five minutes when, from a scrum, Fly-Half Paul Carter dropped a goal.

Services themselves had the chance two minutes later to make the scores equal, but young Full-Back Chris Hollick missed a penalty from about 35 yards.

Services Scrumhalf Higgins was giving a poor service to his Fly-Half, Bas Riley but Services continued to have the better part of the game, with their Forwards dominating , without the three-quarters doing anything with the Ball won. Services best move came at the end of the half as the forwards combined with the threequarters and were unlucky not to score due to a knock-on by Peter Plumb, half-time score, Services 0-3 Albion.

Services pack exerted terrific pressure in the opening minutes of the second half, but a try would not come. Albion Flanker Richard “Brain” Catchpole made a good break, which led to Services being penalised, but Fly-Half Paul Carter was wide with his kick.

Albion left their comeback until late in the game, but then taught Services a lesson in turning possession into points. Peter Treadwell scored after a great break by Geoff Harding had set up the try for Albion.

Shortly afterwards second-row Tony Frowde broke through to almost produce another try, by now Services were at sixes and sevens in defence, and Catchpole chased a kick ahead to collect the ball and dive over Services line in the 78th minute for Albion’s second try, leaving the final score Services 0-11 Albion.
