April 20, 2023 Albion

After 25 games, over 100 tries and 14 wins this campaign, it is time to finish off the season against our first opponents this campaign – Cambridge.

What has turned out to be a terrific term started in Cambridge back in September, and a tough game ended with two bonus points for the Ocean City’s finest. Against a side that was always going to be at the top this season, it was a sign of good things to come this year.

While it has not always been the easiest ride, the lads have turned an 11th-placed finish last season into a very possible fourth in 2022-23.

Five points this weekend puts the pressure on Rams to perform in their final game against Cinderford, who themselves are still in the battle for fourth. So while we do need things to fall our way elsewhere, a good performance at the Brickfields on Saturday gives us a solid chance of a top-four finish.

While we are looking at fourth, our opponents this weekend are eyeing up promotion. They have a game in hand on both Sale and Rams at the top, and they face Birmingham Moseley next weekend in a game that could potentially see them seal top spot in the division and a place in the Championship.

We are certainly not here to make that an easy task though and, if Cambridge are to taste league success at the end of this month, they will need to get past an almighty challenge at the Brickfields with Albion chasing a grandstand finish of their own.

This season’s meeting:
As mentioned, Cambridge were our first opponents this season, and we came away from Volac Park with two points after a 34-28 defeat.
